In this course, you’ll have the opportunity to learn Gypsy-style songs from the Balkans, Russia, Greece, Turkey, and beyond. These songs have a distinct, exotic flavor, influenced by Turkish, Persian, Egyptian, Middle Eastern, and Indian scales. Over the centuries, these cultural sounds blended together to create what we now recognize as the Gypsy sound—a vibrant, passionate style played for generations by nomadic musicians originally from Rajasthan, India. These musicians traveled across the world, sharing their unique music and gifting it to global cultures. Many beautiful compositions in this style have been written over the years, some more than 200 years old. I’ll teach you some of the most famous masterpieces, so you can experience this incredible musical tradition.
