MISIRLOU | GREEK – TURKISH | song study

About Course

INSTANT RESULTS GUARANTEED!!!

Misirlou is About 150-200 years old, the origin of the song is not clear, it is recognized as a Gypsy / Turkish Arabic flavored Middle Eastern song with Greek influences. Some of the first recordings were in Greek. This composition is based on the Arab scale (Maqam)  called ‘Hijaz’, it could be associated with Turkish as well as Sephardi (Old Spanish Jewish) origins as this tune was translated to many languages and sung by quite a few different cultures in the Middle East. It is probably not possible to indicate from what country was the writer from or what country was he at the time, on when exactly this song was written, as far as we don’t know it could be 400 years old as well.

I love playing this kind of music and this tune is great, I really love to improvise on this song, i even wrote some lyrics in English I will put the link here once I record it.
Enjoy lots, yours
