“Bella ciao” is a is an Italian protest folk song from the late 19th century, originally sung by the mondina workers in protest against the harsh working conditions in Northern Italy.
Bella Ciao in Italian means: “Goodbye beautiful”
The song became an anthem of the Italian Partisan (Anti Nazi) resistance between 1943 and 1945 during the II World War.
This song became popular world wide , many versions of “Bella ciao” are sung as a hymn of freedom and resistance.
