The ‘Gypsy sun dance’ was written in SF west coast during my 15 years of troubadour life around the world.
I started my accordion lessons in Israel age 12 with a Russian gypsy teacher who showed him what the accordion was all about. Later in my life I discovered the Gypsy flavour music, and heard about the Nomadic tribes that supposedly came from Turkey, but this information was not exact.
The word ‘Gypsy’ comes from the slang: ‘Egyptian’ , their real name is actually ‘Romani’ tribes , they originated way back from India who moved all around west Asia and have spent many decades playing music for royal families of the Turkish empire , continued to travel through Russia to East Europe making thier living by playing street music, creating their own festivals. The locals were not fond of the brown skinned foreigners and called them Gypsies as they looked as if they came from Egypt.
This incredible music they play is rich with unique rhythm patterns and exotic scales influenced by Indian classical music.
